I’m a Floridian since childhood, when my family left Michigan to live first in Miami, then in the Fort Myers area. My introduction to web development came via Flash and Dreamweaver as a student at Fort Myers High School, but I decided to set that aside to pursue a degree in history at Florida Gulf Coast University.
While in college I worked at a local travel agency and helped them get their first site online. It wasn’t the prettiest thing ever, to put it mildly, but it felt great to help the company take a step forward. From there I started researching more modern methods of web development and made some cool things, like a client database for the travel agency, and a tool for nonprofits to build their own websites with donation functionality. I would create things I thought people might like, release them for free on open source focused websites, and hope somebody got some good use out of it. Through this process I got feedback from more accomplished people and was able to learn from their work. Eventually I decided on making career of it, and that has become reality at Boost Creative.
